The Hanumen

The Hanumen are a kirtan "supergroup" bringing together four distinct voices of the Western bhakti world: percussionist and poet John de Kadt, kirtan leader Gaura Vani, bassist and singer Purusartha Dasa, and multi-instrumentalist Benjy Wertheimer of Shantala — often joined by Visvambhar Sheth of The Mayapuris. Blending call-and-response chant with world percussion, esraj, and spoken poetry, their concerts move between ecstatic groove and meditative stillness. Their self-titled debut album and follow-up 'Sound Is the Weapon of the Revolution' have made them festival favorites at gatherings like Omega's Ecstatic Chant weekend.
