Life & Legacy
An American-born disciple in the line of Srila Prabhupada, Aindra Das devoted his life to nama-sankirtana in the holy town of Vrindavan, India. In 1986 he helped establish the round-the-clock Kirtan at the Krishna-Balaram Mandir — an unbroken chanting that continues to this day — and became renowned for his deeply melodic, emotionally absorbing style and his mastery of the harmonium and mridanga.
His recordings and his Vrindavan kirtans inspired a younger generation of singers who carried that immersive, melody-rich approach into the global Kirtan scene. He also authored The Heart of Transcendental Book Distribution, and passed away in Vrindavan in 2010.
Contribution to Kirtan
He founded and led the round-the-clock 24-Hour Kirtan at ISKCON's Krishna-Balaram Mandir in Vrindavan, reviving an immersive, deeply melodic style of Vaishnava kirtan that has shaped a whole generation of kirtaniyas. His recordings and his insistence on kirtan as the heart of devotional life helped renew the contemporary Vaishnava chant movement.
