Wahe Guru is the gurmantra of the Sikh tradition: "wahe" is an exclamation of ecstatic wonder that cannot be translated, only felt, and "guru" is the wisdom that carries one from darkness into light. The closing "wahe jio" turns the wonder inward and makes it intimate — addressing the Divine as the beloved of one's own soul (jio).
