Definition

The community of initiated Sikhs — "the pure ones" — founded by Guru Gobind Singh at Vaisakhi in 1699, when five volunteers offered their heads and rose as the Panj Piare, the Five Beloved. Binding devotion to fearless service, Khalsa congregations have carried shabad kirtan through more than three centuries of Sikh worship.
