Definition
Literally "the end of the Vedas" — the school of thought built on the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and their vision of ultimate reality. Vedanta asks what the self (atman) truly is and answers, in its most famous form, that it is not separate from the Divine (Brahman). Swami Vivekananda carried Vedanta to the West in 1893, opening the road every later teacher of chant and yoga traveled.
