Full Translation

A loving call to the Divine Mother as Jagadamba ("mother of the world"), invoking her as both Durga, the fierce protector, and Kali, who cuts through illusion. "He Ma!" — "O Mother!" — the cry of wonder and longing — runs through the heart of the chant.

Spiritual Significance

The Mother is approached not as distant but as the nearest refuge — the one who protects, who destroys what must die in us, and who answers the heart's cry. Singing her names is an opening of the heart to be held and remade.

Cultural Context & History

A signature Devi chant of Krishna Das, who sings the Mother's names in long, surging call-and-response. It draws on the pan-Indian Shakta devotion to the Goddess in her many forms.
